Best GW2 Crafting Spots And Free VIP Pass Alternatives

VIP Passes are a wonderful thing, they make it easier to access important services such as crafting stations or the trading post in one place. However they aren’t free and the permanent versions aren’t always available in the store, so in this guide we have gathered some suitable (and free) alternatives.

These aren’t perfect replacements and we still recommend eventually getting a pass in our guide to gem store purchases, but if you’re looking for the next best thing for the time being, we’ve got you covered.

Combining Services

While nothing beats the service density of VIP areas, we can come close if we combine two zones and figure out a way to minimize travel time between them.

That is how we arrived on the following sites:

We recommend the Stronghold of Ebonhawke for crafting. The crafting stations are all lined up fairly close to the Trading Post and there are way fewer players here than in the cities, giving you the best overall performance.

Rata Sum is also a viable candidate, in terms of services it’s just as good as Ebonhawke but there could be lag if your PC isn’t good enough.

While TP access shouldn’t be a problem in either of these places, you could teleport to Obsidian Sanctum right from the crafting stations and then back, if you don’t want to walk.

Getting Here

If you’ve never been to Ebonhawke, the fastest way to get here is through the Rurikton disctrict of Divinity’s Reach. There is an Asura Gate which teleports you right to the stronghold on the other side of the world map.

Once you unlock the nearby waypoint, that method will no longer be necessary in the future.

Obsidian Sanctum

Trading Post, Bank, Laurel merchant, regular merchant with gathering tools and more await you right at the entrance. There’s even a portal to Lion’s Arch and an option to return to your previous location. It’s as good as it gets. If you’re in need of services other than crafting, we recommend Obsidian Sanctum.

Players are protected from PvP encounters while on the service platform, so it’s 100% safe even for lower level characers.

The only downside is the fact that the local Laurel merchant is a WvW focused one and his wares differ from that of other laurel merchants. If you are looking for a regular one, use the PvP Lobby instead.

Getting Here

Fairly straightforward, just bring up the WvW panel (B by default) and select Obsidian Sanctum on the left, below the borderland options.

When you’re done, simply select the “Leave the Mists” option at the bottom right corner of the same panel. You’ll be returned to your previous location in Tyria.
